Mesing a geometry with micrometer to nanometer features

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hi
I am trying to mesh two concentric circles of micron diameter (say 10 microns). But the difference between the diameters of the two circles is of nanometer range (1-5nm), i.e. one circle is of 10microns diameter and the other one is 10um+5nm diameter. During meshing, I am getting errors. Is there any way to fix this problem?I would appreciate any of the experts help. I am using COMSOL v3.5a.
Thanks
Imran

Hi

check your geomemtry absolute and relative resolution settings (not sure anymore where they are in 3.5, probably in the options and geoemtry tab) to be sure the items are resolved

the next issue is that from nm to um there are 6 orders of magnitude, that is probably too much for the mesher in one go, one way around is to add an intermediate internal boundary so you reduce the aspec rations to at most 1:10'000, then mesh in 2 steps, higest resolution first, coarse at the end

Good luck
