COMSOL discretization

Hi,

I read in the reference manual that underlying discretization method of COMSOL is Galerkin method. Galerkin method is a weighted residual method and it does not require weak form. However, it looks like COMSOL converts the equations to weak form. So, what is the underlying discretization method in COMSOL?

I am not familiar with discontinuous Galerkin method. By any chance, is this the method used by COMSOL?

Thanks,
Sirisha

When COMSOL refers to the Galerkin method they mean that the test functions used in the weak form are the same as the solution functions. The Galerkin method for weighted residuals uses the same assumption. That is also different from the discontinuous Galerkin methods.
