In the paper, first a basic concept of the engineering approach for modeling and control of distributed parameter systems (DPS) based on interpretation of controlled systems as lumped input and distributed output systems (LDS) is introduced. Next, FEM modeling of temperature fields in casting mould and extruder body as real DPS by means of the software environment COMSOL Multiphysics® is demonstrated and models for DPS control synthesis are created. By means of DPS Blockset for MATLAB & Simulink, control loops are arranged. Finally, after simulation, real-time control of temperature field in casting mould is realized and for extruder body also block scheme for co-simulation joining COMSOL Multiphysics® and MATLAB® & Simulink® software environment is prepared and control process is executed.
