Keynote Speakers Announced for the Online Event COMSOL Day: Oil & Gas

Four industry experts will discuss how they use multiphysics simulation for oil & gas applications at the online event on Thursday, March 31.

BURLINGTON, MA (March 23, 2022) — COMSOL Day: Oil & Gas is the next installment in a series of events hosted by COMSOL, makers of the COMSOL Multiphysics® simulation software. This event will cater to both experienced users and those new to simulation with a comprehensive program that will include keynote presentations from industry leaders as well as COMSOL-led technical sessions. COMSOL Day: Oil & Gas is an online event that will be held on Thursday, March 31, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. EDT.

Oil & Gas Presentations on Production, Protection, and Storage

The four keynote speakers use COMSOL Multiphysics® to tackle product and process design challenges in the oil & gas industry. At the event, they will share their experiences of using multiphysics simulation in various segments of the industry, from exploration and extraction to refinement and transportation. They will also address specialized engineering tasks like corrosion protection of structures, large-scale underground carbon dioxide capture, and hydrogen storage.

Keynote talks:

  • "Enabling Full-Stream Oil & Gas Applications Development with COMSOL Multiphysics®" by Steve Farmer, Baker Hughes
  • "Modeling Cathodic Protection Retrofitting of Offshore Structures" by Paolo Marcassoli, Cescor Srl
  • "Leakage Analysis Addressing Vertical Migration Rates Along Faults" by Tore Ingvald Bjørnarå, Norwegian Geotechnical Institute
  • "Applications for Underground Gas Storage" by Elena Abarca, Amphos 21

In addition, five COMSOL sessions will cover topics specific to this industry:

  • Trends in the Oil & Gas Industry
  • Well Logging Applications
  • Thermodynamics and Multiphase Flow
  • Cathodic Protection
  • Reservoir Modeling

Multiphysics Simulation for the Oil & Gas Industry

Engineers in the oil & gas industries encounter a broad spectrum of physics in their work, such as fluid flow, heat transfer, chemical reactions, acoustics, structural mechanics, electromagnetics, and more. Furthermore, all of these physics phenomena can interact simultaneously in the real world, so modeling them accurately requires software with multiphysics capabilities.

“This COMSOL Day is a great opportunity for those in the oil & gas industry who are interested in multiphysics modeling to learn from experienced modelers,” says Toochi Onwuliri, technical sales manager for mining and oil & gas at COMSOL. He continues, "The COMSOL-led sessions give attendees insight into what is possible when using multiphysics simulation in a variety of areas and open a forum to ask questions. Personally, I am excited to attend the Tech Lunch, where attendees can chat with a panel of COMSOL engineers and ask them questions."

Register for COMSOL Day: Oil & Gas

COMSOL Day: Oil & Gas will be held online on Thursday, March 31. Registration is free-of-charge.

About COMSOL Days

COMSOL Days are popular online events applicable to people who work in industries and areas where COMSOL Multiphysics® can benefit their modeling and simulation projects. All COMSOL Days cover a wide range of subjects, including how to turn COMSOL models into specialized simulation apps for engineers who do not have a background in modeling.

The events feature 1-day programs with keynote presentations, technical sessions, panel discussions, and more. COMSOL Days will continue throughout 2022 with multiple events held each month.
