Acoustics Modeling in COMSOL Multiphysics®

Intensive introduction to simulating acoustics and vibrations using COMSOL Multiphysics®

Training Course Objective

The goal of this course is to immerse you in the COMSOL Multiphysics® modeling workflow and help you feel comfortable working with the Acoustics Module. We will use a combination of instructor-led and self-guided hands-on training together with theoretical and practical lectures. By the end of the training course, you will know how to efficiently model acoustics and vibrations with the COMSOL® software.

Schedule

Day 1

11 a.m.–1 p.m. EDT

  • Introductory example (guided hands-on)

  • Overview of acoustics analysis in COMSOL Multiphysics®

2–5 p.m. EDT

  • Pressure acoustics analysis – modeling with the finite element method

    • Meshing wave problems

    • Physics setup (fluid models, sources, and boundary conditions)

Day 2

11 a.m.–1 p.m. EDT

  • Pressure acoustics analysis – modeling with the finite element method

    • Modeling open boundaries using perfectly matched layers

    • Solver setting options for large acoustic models

    • Transient analysis

2 p.m.–5 p.m. EDT

  • Pressure acoustics analysis – modeling with the discontinuous Galerkin method

  • Analysis of elastic waves and vibrations

  • Acoustic–structure interaction

Day 3

  • Work on exercises (no class)

Day 4

11 a.m.–1 p.m. EDT

  • Thermoviscous acoustics

  • Aeroacoustics and ultrasound

  • Geometrical acoustics

2–5 p.m. EDT

  • Piezoelectric effects

  • Electroacoustics

  • Multiscale modeling for complicated acoustics systems

Suggested Background

This course assumes familiarity with the fundamentals of acoustics. We strongly recommend that those new to COMSOL Multiphysics® take the COMSOL Multiphysics® Intensive Training course prior to attending this class.
