HOw to model a metamaterial in COMSOL and calculate the effective index

i like to model a simple metamaterial structure in COMSOL with applying periodic bounadary condition in the tranverse direction to the direction of wave propagation. is there ant built in function ot find the effective parameters like refractive index and impedance of the metamaterial.
can any one help me with a example model.
