The Basics of Modeling Manufacturing Processes

You can use COMSOL Multiphysics® to model various manufacturing processes. In this previously held webinar, after giving a brief overview of the software, we discuss the different branches of physics relevant for simulating manufacturing processes. These include structural mechanics, heat transfer, fluid flow, and electromagnetics. We then discuss the capabilities in the software for modeling the multiple physics involved in these manufacturing processes, including:

  • Metal processing
  • Thermal stress
  • Electromagnetic heating
  • Thermal expansion
  • Material activation and deactivation
  • Nonlinear material effects

Toward the end, we show a step-by-step process of building and simulating the carburization and quenching of a steel gear tooth using COMSOL Multiphysics®.

You can learn more about using the software for modeling manufacturing processing by reading our blog post "How to Activate Material in Simulations of Manufacturing Processes".
