Residual stress in Comsol4

Please login with a confirmed email address before reporting spam

Hello,

I recently switched to Comsol 4. I am trying to simulate the effects of residual stress in a microstructure, however I cannot find the initial stress values input fields anywhere in the model. Can you help me sort this out please?

Many thanks!

Hi
Check the initial condition sub-node, but also get hands on the 4.1 (being shipped these days I have heard) its more stable ;)

Good luck

Hi,

You enter initial stresses in the "Initial Stress and Strain" subnode, which you add by right-clicking a solid mechanics material model node (a "Linear Elastic Material Model" node, for example). It is then by default valid in the same domains as its parent node. You need the Structural Mechanics Module or MEMS Module to access the "Initial Stress and Strain" subnode.

Best regards,
