Geometry Repair

Hi all
Could you explain an effective procedure to repair a geometry (files: *.stl or step) in order not to produce errors such as "intersection faces", and reduce elements or size of the geometry to improve compilation time ?. I've tried already several strategies as reparation in Meshlab and Freecad platforms, but not succefull so far. I attached the geometry file for consideration... Thanks
