The Use of Multiphysics Modeling in the Steel Industry

Filip Van den Abeele
Simulation Expert, OCAS, Belgium
Publié en 2009

OCAS is a joint venture between ArcelorMittal and the Flemish Region. She uses COMSOL Multiphysics for the following:

  • Enamel solidification
  • Magnetic Pulse Forming
  • Electromagnetic modelling of electric machines
  • Vortex Induced Vibrations
  • Model Identification for
  • Orthotropic Materials
  • and much more

---------------------------------- Keynote speaker's biography:

Filip Van den Abeele has a M.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, and received his Ph.D. from Ghent University for his research on finite element modeling of impact damage in composite materials. He is currently working as a simulation expert at ArcelorMittal R&D Industry Gent (OCAS). In the Steel Solutions and Design department, COMSOL is applied to a wide variety of industrially relevant topics. Applications include enamel solidification, magnetic pulse forming and vortex induced vibrations. Filip's main research interest is pipeline engineering, and he is actively promoting the use of multiphysics modeling for the oil and gas industry.

Filip Van den Abeele was one of the keynote speakers at the COMSOL User's Conference, fall 2009 in Milan.
