COMSOL, Inc. is looking for a software developer to strengthen the development team in its Burlington, MA office. We are seeking an individual with a solid background in particle-based numerical methods. In this role, you will enhance and extend our Particle Tracing Module, Granular Flow Module, and Molecular Flow Module — add-on products to COMSOL Multiphysics®. You will contribute across the full development lifecycle — from problem analysis and specification, through implementation in C++/Java, to testing, documentation, and product design. This role offers the chance to help shape new industry-relevant simulation features and tools.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate with team members to analyze simulation requirements and define technical specifications.
- Design and implement robust, efficient numerical methods and simulation algorithms in C++ and/or Java.
- Conduct testing and verification of code, produce clear documentation, and ensure maintainability of the software modules.
- Participate in product design and innovation for simulation software applied to real-world engineering problems.
- Work with cross-discipline teams to deliver impactful solutions.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Applied Science or Applied Mathematics.
- Expertise in at least one of the the following numerical simulation methods:
- Lagrangian particle tracking,
- Discrete element method (DEM),
- Molecular dynamics (MD),
- Smoothed particle hydrodynamics (SPH),
- Particle-in-cell (PIC).
- Demonstrated experience with mathematical modeling.
- Proven programming experience in C++/Java.
- Excellent technical writing skills.
Meriting Skills and Experiences
- Experience with COMSOL Multiphysics.
- Experience with user interface design and development.
- Familiarity with the finite element method (FEM) and multiphysics coupling.
