Axially Rotating Pipe and Swirling Jet Turbulent Flows
Application ID: 140251
Turbulent flow, SSG-LRR interface is used to analyze fully developed turbulent flow in an axially rotating pipe and in a swirling jet emanating from such a pipe. The resulting flow pattern in the pipe is characterized by slower-than-solid-body rotation. Axial velocity of the swirling jet falls off more rapidly at the axis, compared to non-swirling situation, due to the increased outward radial transport of momentum.
SSG-LRR turbulence model is able to qualitatively capture most features of the rotating pipe and swirling jet flows, including axial and tangential velocity, as well as Reynolds stress evolution.

however, additional products may be required to completely define and model it. Furthermore, this example may also be defined and modeled using components from the following product combinations:
The combination of COMSOL® products required to model your application depends on several factors and may include boundary conditions, material properties, physics interfaces, and part libraries. Particular functionality may be common to several products.
