The flow of conductive liquids in a magnetic field has many applications, ranging from fluid pumps and measurement devices to advanced cooling systems utilized in nuclear fusion reactors. Magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) flow is inherently multiphysics, involving the coupling of electric currents, magnetic fields, and fluid flow. It can also be extended to include heat transfer through the fluid and its surroundings, leading to conjugate heat transfer and nonisothermal flow effects.

COMSOL Multiphysics® is particularly well suited for computing MHD flow thanks to its ability to seamlessly couple multiple physics domains. The latest release, version 6.1, has significantly enhanced the MHD modeling capabilities in the COMSOL® software by introducing a built-in Magnetohydrodynamics Multiphysics Coupling feature and a material library of liquid metals.

In this 45-minute webinar, we will introduce the features that can be used for MHD modeling in both 2D and 3D and provide a live demonstration.
